My Health Story
Since I can always remember, I dealt with some form of illness or health problem from a young age.
I suffered from chronic asthma as a child, consistently attached to my nebulizer and breathing treatments. I was on many medications and steroids to help control it. I even remember leaving class time at school to do breathing treatments in the nurse's office.
In my early teens, I started fainting and having seizures out of nowhere. At that point, I was hospitalized. The doctors couldn't figure out what was going on, and after many testings, I was diagnosed with epilepsy. I was put on medication to control my seizures and fainting spells.
Later in my teen years, I also struggled with my weight and, what I didn't know at the time, binge eating. I remember starving myself for days at a time to then hide in my room with bars of chocolate so that no one would see me. This was the start of my yo-yo dieting and diet pills era.
In my late teens and early 20's, I started struggling with depression, anxiety, and chronic stress because of family issues. I started getting stress rashes on my body, and I used alcohol as a form of numbing. As a teacher, I was always sick because my immune system was so weak.
At the age of 35, I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. I underwent chemotherapy, a bilateral mastectomy, and radiation. My depression and anxiety worsened after these. I even started struggling with PTSD. I remember telling my doctor that I was done feeling like this, and he immediately put me on medication. Medication that just made it worse and made me sick.
My face began breaking out with acne, rosacea, eczema. I had poor health gut, and don't even get me started on my hormones. If you look in the dictionary for the hormonal monster, you will probably see a photo of me. But in all of this, not one person or doctor asked me how my nutrition, exercise, or mental well-being was.
That's when I finally vowed that there had to be a better way to heal all of the symptoms I was living with. I knew deep down inside that my body wasn't meant to suffer in the ways it had and that I needed to take my health into my own hands.
This is where my story of healing begins.
My Path To Healing Mentally, Spiritually, and Physically
When we think of healing an issue our body is having, we usually think of just solving the situation, the pain, or the uncomfortable feeling we are having. We don't realize that there is a root cause deep down that needs to be found. Finding this cause helps heal us on so many different levels, including mentally, spiritually, and physically.
In 2019 I took charge of my health and decided it was time to heal from the wounds you could and could not see. I began to see a holistic Chiropractor and Functional Medicine Doctor. I began working on my physical pain left by my breast cancer surgery scars and Neurofeedback to help with my anxiety, depression, and PTSD. I started to fall deep into healing my body holistically.
In 2020 after COVID-19, I listened to my intuition. I used those quarantined months to go back to school, enroll in a Human Design Certification program, and joined a coaching spiritual mastermind. Summer of 2020, I enrolled in the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and graduated in March of 2021. I'm an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and Certified Human Design Guide.
In August 2021, I decided I would no longer hide my passion for women's health, specifically hormones and gut health. I enrolled in IIN once again to study hormones even deeper and to become certified. My goal is to become Board Certified early next year and keep learning ways to holistically heal my body while teaching other women and moms to do the same.
For the past few years, I've had to reconnect with my body and learn to listen to her when she speaks.
I was one of the many women who depended on others to tell her what was wrong with her own body. I've survived breast cancer, depression, anxiety, hormonal imbalances, anovulatory cycles, PMS symptoms, menopause during cancer, PTSD, gut health, toxic relationship with food and people. I know that there are other women just like me who have suffered the same. I've become obsessed with finding answers to questions that are not being asked and opening up conversations that are left for closed doors.
It's taken me 40 years to get here, but I've always believed that everything happens in divine timing, which is why you are here reading this today.
My new perspective in life, spirituality, and health didn't happen overnight. Finding gratitude and compassion is always a work in progress, but I'm beyond grateful for this journey.
My experiences with breast cancer, hormonal imbalances, weight gain, poor gut health, mental health, low self-esteem, and being a mom of two young ladies have led me to my passion for hormonal and women's health.
It's amazing how we can heal our body when we listen to the signs she gives us and to feel powerful enough to be our own health advocate.
My mission is not only to teach moms and women to heal from hormonal imbalances but to look at the root cause of those symptoms.
Health, happy hormones, and a healthy gut are not only about the foods you eat or how much you are exercising. It's also about your mental and spiritual life. You can heal your body physically, but if you're not experiencing joy, self-care, love for yourself, or a feminine connection, your health will suffer again. Everything is interconnected.
I know that my journey was to inspire me to do the healing holistically to share my knowledge with other women to do the same.
I work with my clients in a holistic and integrative way to help them have symptomless cycles and a deeper connection with themselves and their bodies.
